Session Title: “Embedding Social Responsibility into School Culture”
Iona Whishaw is currently Principal of David Thompson Secondary a school of 1860 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prior to January of this year she was the Principal of Sir Charles Tupper Secondary, where she helped to establish the ROARS code of conduct as a central element of the school’s identity. Before becoming an administrator, Iona taught English and Spanish, and prior to that had a twenty year career in social services as a youth worker, social worker and an alternate school youth counselor. She has an MFA in writing, has publications in poetry and children’s writing, and was recently nominated by the staff at Tupper and is the 2010 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award Recipient in the Education, Training & Development Category.
